Battle Scores & Thoughts #
Fun Fun Fun #
7/10: A solid introduction to the part but nothing more than that.
California King Bed #
8/10: It’s disturbing how upbeat Daiya is despite trying to enslave Josuke. You have to let the fact that she’s practically trying to enslave Josuke really sink in to feel the magnitude of this fight despite only being the second fight of the part. It’s terrifying. Usually, it’s a matter of life or death and death is a preferable alternative to enslavement. While Josuke may seem unthreatening on the surface, when it comes down to it he’s as ingenious as any other JoJo.
Born This Way #
7/10
Les Feuilles #
7/10: That’s the wiki name for the gingko leaves, don’t ask me why. Joshu shows that he’s an asshat but he’s a fun character. I had a hard time understanding the gingko leaves. It wasn’t necessarily explained poorly but it was a confusing stand to me. It carries shit???
Paper Moon King #
6/10: As Yashuo’s and Tsurugi’s stand battle debut, it wasn’t much of a battle. Mostly just Yasuho running around confused. I won’t hold it against JoJolion as it doesn’t seem this was intended to an interesting fight anyway, more so moving the plot along. Paper Moon King itself has a neat ability but it isn’t interesting or fun.
I Am A Rock #
8/10: Yotsuyu is the first villain there’s some investment in in JoJolion and he has a fun stand which makes for a great fight. I loved the ridiculousness of a bunch of random shit crushing them. Josuke putting Yotsuyu into a giant bubble was hilarious and amazing.
Speed King #
8/10: Using beetles as a medium for the stands to use is genius creativity from Araki. This distinguishes it from other fights by itself. The mystery of Jobin at this point in the story solidifies this as one of the best fights in JoJolion. You could feel the tension between Josuke and Jobin in the air… while Joshu is rambling like an idiot.
Doobie Wah! #
7/10: The enemy stand carries the fight since there is little reason to care about Yasuho or Tsurugi nor are their stands of any interest.
Schott Key #
6/10: Boring stands.
Vitamin C #
9/10: I love this fight. Not only is Vitamin C a cool stand but the backstory of Josuke’s past is so perfectly interwoven with the present-day fight. That backstory and it’s integration into JoJolion is some of the best writing Araki has ever done.
Milagro Man #
7/10: This was a good fight but… why did this exist? To give Joshu some screen time? I guess it does that.
Blue Hawaii #
6/10
Urban Guerrilla and Doremifasolati #
8/10
Ozone Baby #
8/10
Doctor Wu #
6/10: Uu was a cool character but the stands were boring and the fighters on the friendly side were some of the more uninteresting characters.
Fun Fun Fun (2) #
7/10: I’m not sure whether I should count this as it’s own fight or not, given it takes place in the middle of the Wonder of You fight and is entitled as a part of it in the volumes.
Wonder of U (Up to C105) #
9/10

Average Battle Score: 7.2/10
C1-C105: 9/10
Part 8 yet again holds it’s position as my favorite part by a wide margin. The fights aren’t always the best but P8 more than makes up for it with the most intricate and fun characters and story in JoJo to date. As for the current happenings: I think Jobin will be the main antagonist. There’s no way they built him up just for him to die as he supposedly did. Tooru may claim the longest fight of the part but there’s no rule that says that makes you the main antagonist.I like him as a antagonist but not the antagonist, due to the lack of build up. He’s a fun character, I’m sure he could’ve been it if Araki inserted him throughout the part instead of during the hospital arc, but that’s not how things happened. I’ll admit his stand fits the bill but that’s only half of what makes the main antagonist. Jobin has been involved in the story from the start providing conflict to Josuke and has some real depth to his motives. I sincerely hope that the High Voltage of P8 will be a Jobin fight, and I hope that it’ll be longer than High Voltage. It doesn’t need to be as long as D4C or Wonder of U’s fight, but enough for a satisfying finale.
