I felt Lawrence of Arabia was really good, but I’m also left wondering what the message of the movie was and exactly what the fuck happened to Lawrence. He seemed like a good guy at first and his descent into madness came in a way that I didn’t quite understand. He was tortured by the Turkish, but why did that turn him into a bloodthirsty savage? He commented how he enjoyed the killing before, but there wasn’t much follow-up until he murders an entire squad. Quite the jump. He seemed to be in some kind of mental distress / breakdown. I suppose there isn’t an inherent logic into the way people break and how it manifests, but still, it felt very extreme. Also - incredibly beautiful movie, visually.
