Bittersweet by Jamie Paige - Thoughts

“Bittersweet” by Jamie Paige… it’s very raw. I don’t like a lot of it. A lot of the lyrics are awkward, sometimes too on the nose, some I straight up dislike, there’s a lot of painful use of autotune. But even so, it’s a beautiful album. Their work is more and more reminding me of Vylet Pony, where before I just thought it was the music video style in common. Machine Love and Antonymph are probably the best examples of the MV style. Artistic inclusion of subtitles, real life shots intertwined, various art from different artists as a tribute to a character. Their music has a similar feeling of emotional rawness and melancholy - but anyway, just back to Jamie. Paisley Patterns is my clear favorite from the album. I love the whole thing. There’s Close which I have mixed feelings on personally, like with the last lyrics. “Jamie Page - That’s my fucking name - I am real and I’m okay - And I will live another day”. It sounds terribly awkward in the song. I dislike it. But I can’t deny I love how it feels and the emotions outpouring from it. “Bittersweet” may not be the tightest, most perfect album, but it feels as if it’s imperfections makes it perfect. It’s not an album to disposably listen to - it’s an album that, sometimes uncomfortably, makes you feel the artist’s soul. It’s art. Nothing (with You) puts the album in better words than I can. “I wanna be nothing with you - A thing that cant be viewed - No careful meaningful design, not easily reduced - We’ll be an idea, not the truth”
